Our Story
Phillips Plywood was founded in 1947 by Dean Phillips, who established the company after his service in World War II. In 1986, Mr. Phillips was looking to sell the company and approached a small investment banking firm, Madsen & Co., run by Douglas Madsen. Perceiving the opportunity to integrate his expertise in fine woodworking with his decades of business experience, Doug decided to purchase Phillips Plywood himself. He personally oversaw the company’s expansion to one of the largest, most well-respected plywood, hardwood, and laminate suppliers in Southern California. The company remains Madsen family-owned and operated today.
